Gareth returned to Cambridge University Veterinary School 2003-2006 to train as a specialist. He passed his specialist exams in 2007 and became an RCVS recognised specialist in small animal orthopaedics the same year.
Gareth has worked at a number of specialist centres in the UK and Ireland, including Liverpool Veterinary School, Cambridge University Veterinary School, Willows Referral Service, the Royal Veterinary College (London), the Animal Health Trust, University College Dublin Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and Dick White Referrals. In most of these centres, he has acted as the senior (chief of service) orthopaedic surgeon, taking responsibility for running the service and training interns and residents (junior veterinary surgeons in training).
Gareth is past chairman of the British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association, reviews manuscripts for a number of international journals, and has been an examiner for the RCVS Diploma in Small Animal Surgery (Orthopaedics).
Gareth works as a consultant for Veterinary Instrumentation, giving product advice to veterinary surgeons, advising on fracture fixation, and contributing to New Products Development.
He is a European board member of AOVET international, and is also a member of AOVET’s International Research and Development commission.
Gareth has contributed a chapter in the BSAVA manual of small animal fracture fixation (2nd edition) and co-edited and contributed chapters to the BSAVA manual of canine and feline musculoskeletal disease (2nd edition).
