Chasing a squirrel one Saturday morning Coco fractured her left hind foot. It was a complex fracture and we were so... lucky to be referred to AVS to see Gareth. Gareth was great, explaining our options to us, answering lots of questions and helping us to decide the best course of treatment. The team is fantastic and I know Coco was very well looked after during her stay, we received regular updates and lots of advice on how best to manage her recovery once she came home. 5 months later and she is back to running around like a nutter and then snoozing for the rest of the day. A very big thank you to Gareth and his team for all that you did for Coco and taking such good care of her.read more

My whole experience with Gareth and the team at Arthurs was great (despite it obviously being a stressful time!). They... were able to see my cat right away, and I was so grateful to them for treating him right away too. Gareth was very good at calming my nerves and making a stressful situation a lot easier. Both he and the rest of the team were incredibly communicative throughout the few days my cat was in having surgery on each hip. He has now been recovering for the last 6 or so weeks and I am SO happy with the surgery and his progress. He is now back to the fun, active, playful and mischievous cat he was before he started to have issues in his hindlegs. I'm so grateful to Gareth and his team for not only taking away my boy's pain but for also treating him (and me) with so much care and empathy. Thank you everyone at Arthurs Vets! We were referred to Arthurs Veterinary Specialists as our mad Springer spaniel Bingo needed a Tibial Plateau Levelling... Osteoptomy. From the very first moment we met the staff and vets at the surgery we have been so impressed with the level of service and care our dog has received.
The information provided, the time taken to help us and to explain everything we needed to know about the procedure and the after care has been superb.
Thank you ☺️

My Wife Georgina and I, are both immensely grateful to Arthurs, for their help expertise, and dedication they have... shown towards our rescue Clumber Spaniel, who’s Russian pet passport names her as Beta Marcel.
Unfortunately she fell on our stairs and a quick X-ray at our local vets showed Beata had broken her Elbow (an incomplete ossification of the Humeral Condyle) the accident happened on the Thursday before the Bank Holiday weekend.
I’m very grateful the entire team worked hard through their own time (giving up their own holidays, in order to repair Beyatta’s Elbow.
The surgery went well, and Beyatta faced extended crate rest to allow healing.
The whole experience was traumatic but ultimately rewarding, as Beyatta has (touch wood) made an uneventful, perfect recovery, thanks to the hard work of the Team at Arthur’s Veterinary Specialist Referrals. Thank you very much much indeed, for your dedication, skill, and hard work.

I am a veterinary nurse and was referred to Gareth via my own vet when Ava, my french bulldog needed surgery on her... leg. At first it was uncertain what surgery Ava may need because of the signs she was showing and how much pain she was in. Gareth saw her for a initial consultation very quickly and thoroughly examined her and put my mind at ease. Ava was booked for surgery the next week and I received regular updates during the day about her recovery.
Ava had her final check last week and is doing very well, I am so pleased with her progress! I highly recommend Gareth and his team of lovely nurses.

Massive thanks to Gareth and the team at Arthurs Orthopaedics and TVC for the care given to Bert for his recent TPLO... procedure.

I’m a Registered Veterinary Nurse with particular interest in /experience of referral orthopaedics. I’ve known Gareth in a professional capacity for a number of years but I have never been on this side of the fence before, as an owner whose dog is needing a major orthopaedic procedure. I can 100% say that Gareth is the safest possible hands - so much so I chose to travel from Derbyshire to Northampton in order that Gareth be the one to do the surgery for Bert.

From initial contact when referral was looking likely, through to discharge of Bert after surgery, every aspect of communication and care has been completely professional and very easy, and conducted with an obvious genuine interest in, and care for, both the patient and the owner. Bert was not the easiest of patients while hospitalised, but every effort was made to keep him calm and make him feel safe. Hats off to the overnight nursing team in particular - I’m fully aware of how difficult he can be, so many thanks to you too!

I’d have no hesitation in recommending Gareth and his team to any owner needing to consider an orthopaedic referral for their pet. I worked in the field of veterinary orthopaedic referrals for more than 5 years and I can honestly say that Gareth is one of the kindest, most compassionate and straightforward specialists in his field. Huge thanks from Bert and from me.

Gareth carried out TPLO surgery on my Staffordshire Bull Terrier's ruptured cruciate ligament back in July. From the initial consultation through to her being discharged, we have had an excellent experience with AVS. The information provided to me was in-depth, the cost was very reasonable (and always laid out to me before any procedure was done) and I felt like my dog was getting the best treatment I could provide to her.Gareth explained everything thoroughly and talked me through x-rays/blood tests/etc so that I knew exactly what was going on throughout the whole process. My dog had a complete rupture as well as a meniscal tear and she developed patellar tendinitis 8 weeks after surgery which Gareth explained can be a complication in a minority of dogs - he diagnosed the tendinitis and ruled out a number of other causes in a follow-up appointment. She has now made a full recovery and is 16 weeks post-op.I couldn't be happier with the entire experience with AVS and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I'm hoping I won't need to use their services again (fingers crossed) but my bouncy Staffy may have other ideas! Thank you so much to the whole team.

Gareth and the team are amazing! They helped our dog Marley who required an operation for a cranial cruciate ligament rupture and dislocating knee-cap in his hind leg. Marley is a Havanese which is a small breed. We were really concerned about his size and whether the surgery would be successful but Gareth and his team’s expertise put our mind at ease. They spent time with us making sure we understood what was happening at each stage, without any pressure to go ahead with the procedure and answering all questions, no matter how big or small. Marley is now doing very well post-surgery, all thanks to Arthurs. You can tell how Arthurs genuinely love dogs. The care they give is above and beyond. So happy we found them. Would highly recommend them to any owner whose dog needs orthopaedic treatment.Thank you so much to everyone at Arthurs.

Late last November, after my cat came in with a severely injured leg, I was facing an astronomical bill despite having insurance. I contacted AVS to see if they could help, and they were quite simply fantastic. Sam on the phone was incredible; she really looked after me and helped guide me through such a stressful situation. I ended up driving an hour to get to the practice, and I’m so glad I did. My cat had a very unusual tarsus dislocation, but Gareth took everything in hand and provided the best surgical outcome possible. His wealth of highly specialist experience put me at ease as he talked me through all the options whilst giving me a realistic expectation of further costs. I left the following day with a cat on the road to what looks to be pretty much a full recovery. I really appreciated the transparency and honesty I was given, and couldn’t be more grateful to the service provided to both myself and my pet. Thank you to all at AVS.

My dog Teddy has had bi-lateral TPLO's by Gareth Arthurs in the last 9 months performed 7 months apart.Gareth is a top orthopedic surgeon, extremely professional and compassionate.Initially I was uncertain what procedure to go for with Teddy; having no insurance I wanted to make sure that the right procedure was selected because I can't easily financially afford mistakes/revisions etc. I went to Gareth for this reason having researched him and found he has a very good reputation; less chance of a costly mistake. Gareth was understanding of my concerns and sent me some papers looking at the different procedures and reassured me that the TPLO was the most effective procedure with the highest level of confidence.Teddy recovered very quickly and fully with his first TPLO; he had his second last week and so far his recovery is even faster.I would not hesitate to recommend Gareth and the team at Arthurs to anyone whose dog has an orthopaedic issue; they really have looked after Teddy wonderfully.

Monty initially was booked in to have surgery on his left hip, we were given several options to consider and we didn't feel at all pressured through this experience, but Gareth answered every question we had and made the complex medical procedures more understandable. Unfortunately, due to his condition, Monty had to have another operation on his right hip 10 days later. I cannot recommend Gareth and the team at Arthurs Veterinary Centre highly enough. As soon as you enter, the team are warm and welcoming and you immediately feel supported and like you, and your pet, are in safe hands. You can sense immediately that everyone, regardless of role, absolutely loves animals.Molly was referred with ruptured cruciate ligaments in both hind legs, and needed pins and plates in both.As an older dog I was very concerned about putting her through such a significant surgery - but Gareth reassured me from the beginning that her age was no reason not go ahead (as she is a really healthy ole girl), and that little dogs usually recover well.On the day of surgery, Gareth called immediately that he was out of surgery to reassure me that all had gone to plan and that his team was feeding my fusspot fresh chicken, because she wasn't keen on the biscuits!! Spoilt little tyke. And, he was absolutely right! She has recovered better than I can ever have imagined - I'm sure she thinks she is a spring chicken again! The support, understanding and reassurance, as well as the care your little one gets are second to none.I would 100% have absolutely no doubts recommending Gareth and his team.

My 10 year old Lurcher had a TPLO operation in Jan 22 due to a cruciate injury.I can not fault the care and service provided by Arthurs Veterinary Specialists. The initial consult was very thorough and Gareth took time to ensure I completely understood the options, what the operation would consist of, the costs involved and the after care and recovery required. The day of the operation went smoothly with great communication, a detailed hand over with what to expect throughout the day, a telephone call from Gareth post operation to confirm all was well and explain what had been carried out. The collection hand over was again very thorough with great aftercare instructions from the team and a good explanation of what I could expect to see happening over the next few days and weeks. The post op notes provided were fantastic. Bert’s physio commented that they were the most in depth post op notes she had seen which made it much easier for her to devise an effective rehabilitation physio plan.I received a telephone call from the team after a few days to check that recovery was proceeding as it should be and the recovery continued to go smoothly. The 8 week post op x-rays were carried out to confirm healing was proceeding as expected and further instructions received on the next few weeks of recovery.Overall, the whole experience was made as easy as possible, with great communication throughout and fantastic customer service. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Arthurs Veterinary Specialists to anyone looking for an orthopaedic specialist and have already done so. My physio was also so impressed she has also recommended them!Bert has made an excellent recovery and is doing really well and back to enjoying his walks again. Thank you to everyone at AVS involved.

Our 3 year old Pug had been suffering from patellar luxation in his hind leg which was gradually getting worse. He underwent corrective surgery in January 2022 with Gareth after a consultation and X-rays. I’m a nervous dog owner but throughout this whole experience I have felt informed and secure. The staff at Arthurs are always friendly and very helpful. Pugsley had to stay overnight following his operation, the night nurse called with an update late at night and again in the morning. Gareth has been on hand to provide support throughout the recovery period which has been most appreciated. Most importantly, Pugsley has made a brilliant recovery, the scar on his leg is minimal considering the operation and Gareth’s work has changed Pugsley’s life. In a few months he’ll be back to running around on the beach! Can’t thank everyone at Arthurs enough.

Kieron & Sheryl Hawes would like to thank Gareth & all the Staff involved in Chesters surgery & recovery. Chester developed some complications during his recovery from his fusion of his leg & we couldn't have got through this without Gareths support & understanding. We have been able to speak to Gareth with our worries & concerns through the whole process, even out of hours & he's always put our minds at rest. Thankyou Gareth you've been professional, caring & lovely towards our much loved boy Chester.

Gareth and his team were fantastic for our cat. She had sustained quite an injury to her front paw. Gareth provided two options to us with clear cost quotes and potential downfalls. His advice to us was clear and understandable. Our cat has now recovered better than expected and we cannot thank Gareth and his team enough. They have been in regular contact since surgery and really had our cat's best interests at heart.

Our local vet referred our Saluki Cross to Gareth due to a injured front knee joint with a bad swelling in December 2020 after an unexplained injury on front leg. Gareth explained our options in clear layman’s language so that we fully understood our problem which put our minds at rest. His main recommendation was to leave well alone, keep an eye on the injury and review later with further X-rays or CT scan if swelling did not go down or our dog was having any mobility problems. It has taken longer than we thought for the swelling to go down (9 months). We are so pleased that we did not have to have an operation and that Gareth was correct in his diagnosis and that there is now no sign of any injury. I have no hesitation in recommending Gareth if you want a honest and professional opinion.

Gareth performed a TPLO surgery on my pet Lowchen dog. The service was excellent. Follow up care was great and Gareth was always on hand to give any advice if I was concerned. Most importantly the operation went well and my dog has made an excellent recovery almost having full movement in his leg after 10 weeks. This is a specialist operation and I am glad that we chose such a professional surgeon to do the job.

I am a veterinary nurse and was referred to Gareth via my own vet for revision surgery on his luxating patella. When I was first contacted by the surgery to arrange an appointment the lady on the phone was very polite and precessional and Frank was booked in swiftly. On the appointment day, the covid restrictions in place were very effective and made me feel safe. Gareth was nice and very good at explaining the process of franks required surgery. Contact with the nurses was good to keep me updated on frank. Frank has done very well post op and the surgery was a success! He attended the practice for post op X-rays which show good progress for him. Overall my experience was very good with Gareth and his team of lovely nurses!

I cannot thank Gareth and his team enough for the surgery they carried out on my deerhound x. She injured 2 toes on one of her hind foot, lateral collateral ligament rupture of proximal inter-phalangeal joints. The recovery has been a lengthy process with an external fixator in place for 6 weeks with a further 6 weeks limited exercise. At all stages Gareth and his team have been excellent which has led to Arya being able to lead a much better quality of life going forward. I feel blessed to have access to one of the most talented orthopaedic surgeons in the country. Once again many thanks to this most talented man with excellent support staff and allowing Arya to be able to run again

I received a 5 Star service from Gareth and the team. They treated my dog within 24 hours after being referred by my own vets. My dog had to have 2 operations and as he wasn't insured Gareth kept the costs as low as possible. Would definitely recommend

Our puppy Jack was referred to Gareth with hip problems, Gareth went through the options and we decided to go for the triple pelvic osteotomy, he explained in full what it entailed and also provided us with written information on the procedure, after the op again explained fully how to look after him and gave us paperwork for referral, he was also on hand to answer any questions no matter how trivial. I cant thank him and his team at Towcester vets enough for their kindness and professionalism . Jack is on his way to a full recovery, no safer hands for your pets

I really cannot praise Gareth Arthurs and his team at Arthurs Orthopaedics enough. After the cruciate ligament ruptured in my dog Molly's right leg (her left left ruptured about 18 months ago), I was distraught. As soon as I met Gareth I knew that she was in the best possible hands. He is obviously a top expert in his field. He explained in depth what he needed to do and I realised that with the type of surgery she required, the utmost precision was required for the surgery to be successful. Molly is now about 10 weeks into her post op period and is doing so well. I can't explain in words what a relief it has been to see Molly go from strength to strength. This is all down to Gareth. Thank you again so much. Also need to praise Gareth's team-they were always so friendly, cheerful, helpful and supportive. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Well done to you all! I would not hesitate to return to Gareth and his team if the need arose.

Arthurs Orthopaedics was recommended to us by our own highly regarded veterinary practice in North Leicestershire.
Our cocker spaniel was displaying signs of initially very slight, intermittent lameness which progressed gradually over the next few months into permanent and very noticeable limping.
Our vet thought it could be the onset of arthritis and prescribed medication accordingly. This was proved not to be the case when his condition did not improve with the medication and x-rays were then undertaken which cancelled out any remaining doubts but also failed to shed any further light on the lameness.
It was thought he may have just suffered some sort of sprain or strain and rest and painkillers may save the day..Unfortunately this wasn't to be the case and it was very upsetting to watch our little fella deteriorate further.

We took him back and were told our vet had done all they could for him but they recommended Gareth Arthurs an orthopaedic specialist who may be able to help him.Initially we did wonder why we had to go so far afield but believe me it was worth it ! as was the consultation fee ..

Gareth made an immediate appointment for us despite literally just returning from his holiday and we were fully informed ahead of this of all costs to come so no nasty surprises!
What struck us most about Gareth (apart from his very obvious expertise in his specialist area of orthopaedics and passion for the subject) was how approachable he was and how such a highly intelligent and educated man could still manage to communicate in "simple layman's terms" to us owners (without being in any way patronising) what he thought our cocker spaniel was suffering from and the way ahead etc ..
Being the true professional that he is, Gareth sent our dog off for an emergency CT scan the results of which proved exactly what he had thought our dog's problem was likely to be just from the initial consultation and examination.
He then booked our dog in immediately for surgery as he was concerned that his elbow maybe in danger of snapping !

Gareth placed a titanium screw inside our dog's elbow to basically hold it together as he was suffering from a crack across the inside of his elbow.. And less than a week later our dog is walking normally without even a trace of a limp. The problem now is he feels so good again that we have to convince him he needs to take it easy for a while, although with Gareth's wonderful surgery he feels like he's up to a squirrel chasing marathon already!
Thank you Gareth for your expertise, your professionalism, your approachability, your advice, your swift replies and also to your team to the bubbly Sam especially who never showed any exasperation with my many queries and questions !! And to the lovely spaniel loving Paddy at Cambridge Referrals who did the CT scan ..

Massive thanks to Gareth and the team at Arthurs Orthopaedics and TVC for the care given to Bert for his recent TPLO procedure.

31st July 2020

We were first referred to Gareth several year ago when bilateral elbow dysplasia was diagnosed in my young Labrador. He was so kind & helpful to this first time dog owner who had no clue of the journey ahead and the difficulties we would face.
We've seen other consultants over the years on the recommendation of our vet but went straight back to Gareth once he became local to us again.
We've had a few appointments over the last 12 months. Gareth has taken the time to fully explain the options available and what he considers a realistic outcome would be. Prices are discussed in advance and estimates are realistic. Aftercare is good with comprehensive reports that are easy to understand and follow up phone calls + emails.
Fast forward to today when I have a senior Labrador who will never be cured but is happy & enjoying life. Thank you for helping us in our journey.
