We are an independently owned orthopaedic surgical referral practice, set-up and run by a friendly local specialist orthopaedic surgeon with over 20 years’ experience working in the largest specialist clinics and veterinary teaching hospitals in the UK.

Our aims are:

To offer the best quality orthopaedic service and surgery for dogs and cats

To be honest and make recommendations on what your pet needs. We never recommend a procedure we do not believe in, or would not do for our own cat or dog.

To provide clear, concise and timely discharge paperwork to the owner and referring veterinary surgeon
To ensure colleagues are valued and treated in a professional and respectful manner.

Arthurs Veterinary Specialists is located at Heyford Hills Farm.

In 2025 we moved into our purpose built premises that boasts :

Two large and spacious operating theatres ideal for complex orthopaedic surgery
State of the art 80/160 slice Canon CT scanner
Digital X-ray
On site laboratory for quick processing of blood samples
Very easy access to major routes such as the M1, M40, A5, A43 and A45

We offer weekday appointments. We see cases on a pre-agreed appointment basis only. All appointments are on a referral only basis i.e. your own veterinary surgeon needs to refer your pet to us for an orthopaedic assessment and treatment. Please ask your veterinary surgeon for a referral to Arthurs Veterinary Specialists.

After the cruciate ligament ruptured in my dog Molly's right leg (her left left ruptured about 18 months ago), I was distraught. We were first referred to Gareth several year ago when bilateral elbow dysplasia was diagnosed in my young Labrador. He was so kind & helpful to this first time dog owner who had no clue of the journey ahead and the difficulties we would face.

We've seen other consultants over the years on the recommendation of our vet but went straight back to Gareth once he became local to us again.

We've had a few appointments over the last 12 months. Gareth has taken the time to fully explain the options available and what he considers a realistic outcome would be. I’ve known Gareth in a professional capacity for a number of years but I have never been on this side of the fence before, as an owner whose dog is needing a major orthopaedic procedure. I can 100% say that Gareth is the safest possible hands - so much so I chose to travel from Derbyshire to Northampton in order that Gareth be the one to do the surgery for Bert.

From initial contact when referral was looking likely, through to discharge of Bert after surgery, every aspect of communication and care has been completely professional and very easy, and conducted with an obvious genuine interest in, and care for, both the patient and the owner. Bert was not the easiest of patients while hospitalised, but every effort was made to keep him calm and make him feel safe. Hats off to the overnight nursing team in particular - I’m fully aware of how difficult he can be, so many thanks to you too!
